Who can travel during Covid-19 restrictions?
All countries have placed restrictions to travel in and out of the country. Australia is one of those countries who placed the travel restrictions in very early stage of Covid-19 and now we all can see the positive result of the restrictions. Most of the Australian states and territories have closed their borders for interstate travellers as well.
Outbound International Travellers
Australian Permanent Residents and Citizens
Australian government has put restrictions for Australian Permanent Residents and Citizens to travel out of Australia due to COVID-19.
However, still you want to travel out of Australia, you have to apply for an exemption to travel and permission to travel will be granted only if you have one of the following situation:
- Your travel is related to the response of COVID-19, including the provision of aid.
- You want to travel due to an urgent personal business matter and it cannot be avoid.
- You have a medical condition and the treatment is not possible in Australia.
- Your travel is in the national interest.
- your travel is essential for the conduct of critical industries and business (including export and import industries)
With the request to travel, all evidences must be attached with your request and could be more than one of the following:
- proof of ID
- marriage certificates
- birth certificates
- death certificates
- proof of relationship (for example, shared tenancy agreement, joint bank account etc.)
- visa status
- letter from a doctor or hospital indicating why the travel is necessary
- letter from an employer indicating why the travel is necessary or the work undertaken is critical
- letter from a related business or company
- any other proof you may have to support your claims.
Foreign Nationals
Due to the current situation in Australia due to COVID-19, including state and territory border restrictions, business closures and social distancing requirements, all international visitors are encouraged to depart if it is possible to do so.
Important: You should be aware that countries around the world are implementing their own border restrictions in response to COVID-19 and the international air network is reducing in capacity. This may impact your ability to enter another country.
Travellers may be able to re-enter Australia if they meet entry conditions. These requirements are under constant review and may change at any time.
